Lucy Sprague Mitchell
Lucy Sprague Mitchell (1878-1967) was an American author as well as a prominent progressive educator. She was founder of the Banks Street College of Education in New York City, an experimental private school for k-8th as well as a graduate level teacher training program. The basis for the Banks Street approach is known as "developmental-interaction" wherein children are encouraged to actively engage with their curriculum. Mitchell was also the first Dean of Women at University of California at Berkeley.
