Elizabeth Griscom Marot
Elizabeth Griscom Marot was a distinguished bookbinder from America who studied under T.J. Cobden-Sanderson at the Doves Bindery in London. Cobden-Sanderson’s first pupil was Evelyn Nordhoff, who ultimately inspired Cobden-Sanderson's venture of sponsoring tenures in study at Doves Bindery. Nordhoff was succeeded by fellow Americans Ellen Gates Starr, Emily Preston, Florence Foote, Minnie Louise MacLean, Norah Jenkins, Mary Upton, Euphemia Bakewell, Cordelia Baker, Sarah and Mary Kendall, and Elizabeth Griscom Marot. Subsequent to study with Cobden-Sanderson at Doves Bindery, Elizabeth Griscom Marot taught the craft of bookbinding at the School of Worcester Art Museum at 10 Highland Street in Worcester, Massachusetts, and authored the article, "Tools Used in Bookbinding," 1911, a work where she elaborates on her insights and knowledge of the craft (Tidcombe, 1996).
