Koran Leaf, 1825

SCRIBE UNKNOWN

India, ca. 1825. MS 134

This folio comes from surah XXXII, the Adoration, and includes verses 32.16-17 from the Qur’an:

Their sides draw away from (their) beds, they call upon their lord in fear and in hope, and they spend out of what We have given them. So no soul knows what is hidden for them of that, which will refresh the eyes; a reward for what they did.

A Persian interlinear translation in red sits just below the Arabic text. The folio is framed by a floral margin, which is reserved for only the finest manuscripts produced for important personages, according to the catalogue record for this recent purchase. There are slight signs on wear in the corners of the folio, demonstrating devotional wear.
