Treatise on Ethics

SHEIKH ABDULMECID SIVASI (1564-1639)

19th century. MS 021

Abdulmecid Sivasi was a Sheikh or ruler of the Ottoman empire as well as a Muslim scholar from Istanbul, Turkey. In addition to being a calioh of the Halveti-Shamsi court in Zile, he extensively studied religious sciences. After he left the caliphate, he moved to Istanbul where he religiously worked under the Sheikh Yavsi Tekkesi in the Hagia Sophia when it was a mosque. This Treatise on Ethics is confirmed by certain passages of the Qu’ran and is written in Turkish in an Arabic hand. While it has yet to be translated, it is most likely the result of his thirty-year studies on religious sciences coupled with his sermon experience.
