DESCRIPTION

Berwick Hall is a new building under construction designed for offices, meeting spaces, and a large rehearsal space primarily serving the Oregon Bach Festival. The two-story building located adjacent to the Frohnmayer Music Building consists of 14,000 square feet with an estimated cost of $8.725 million. Funding support has largely come from Phyllis and Andrew Berwick, UO grads and longtime supports of the Bach festival. The Berwicks have already funded the festival’s Berwick Academy. A 2,300 square feet rehearsal space is a significant feature of the new building.

Hacker was founded in 1983 by Thomas Hacker, a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania who moved to Oregon in 1970 and taught at the University of Oregon. Other works by Hacker at the University of Oregon are the HEDCO building of the College of Education, the James F. Miller Theater Complex and the the Lewis Integrative Science Building. The firm was renamed "Hacker" in 2015 according to a press release of September 15, 2015.
