DESCRIPTION
The Eugene Pioneer Cemetery was established in 1872 by the Spencer Butte Lodge No. 9 of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows for use as a fraternal cemetery. For many years the cemetery was considered as a viable space for future university growth. A 1963 plan (Lutes and Amundson) envisioned placing buildings over the graves by means of stilts and enabling navigation through raised walkways and bridges.
